The German embassy in Nigeria and the Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM) are set to implement a training program for journalists on migration and economic issues, according to recent reports. In a statement released by the JIFORM Secretariat on Monday, the organization confirmed the collaboration with the embassy.

Last week, JIFORM’s President, Dr. Ajibola Abayomi, and another member, Mrs. Yemisi Izuora, met with Gerald Wolf, the Deputy Consul General, and Elle Ogunsanya, the Program Coordinator, at the Lagos consulate of the embassy, where they discussed the partnership. During the meeting, Dr. Abayomi urged the embassy to work with JIFORM to combat irregular migration, human trafficking, and other migration-related issues.

Gerald Wolf expressed his office’s willingness to welcome the proposal for a workshop for journalists and take the necessary steps to ensure its success. He also highlighted the German government’s opportunities for skilled and qualified migrants from Nigeria, especially in education and teaching.

The JIFORM is an organization founded in Lagos in 2019, comprising over 300 journalists covering migration worldwide. The body has facilitated several capacity-building and training programs for journalists and stakeholders, including the annual global migration conference, the African Migration summit, and the West African Media Migration Summit. Additionally, the JIFORM has organized the inaugural intercontinental migration summit and the annual national migration summit, which took place recently in Lagos.
