Russia’s call for an independent inquiry into explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines connecting Russia and Germany was rejected by the United Nations Security Council on Monday.
Russia, China, and Brazil were the only countries to vote in favor of the resolution, while the remaining 12 members abstained.
The pipeline blasts occurred in the exclusive economic zones of Sweden and Denmark, and their ongoing national investigations should be allowed to conclude before considering any action at the United Nations, according to most members who abstained.
Moscow has accused the West of being behind the blasts without providing evidence, while the United States has denied involvement.
