An executive from an Istanbul-based private energy company and five others were arrested for alleged espionage in Turkiye during a critical time for the country following the discovery of 405 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Black Sea, according to Daily Sabah. Emel Ozturk, deputy General Manager at Bosphorus Gaz Corp., and the other suspects were accused of sharing confidential information about Turkiye’s energy imports to benefit a foreign energy giant.
The Turkish security forces apprehended the group during an investigation by the National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) and Istanbul Branch Office of Combatting Financial Crimes.
