Nigeria’s President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has been congratulated by the Presidents of Cuba and Nicaragua, as well as the Developing Eight Organizations for Economic Cooperation, for his victory in the presidential election held on February 25. Tinubu’s spokesperson, Tunde Rahman, released a statement on Saturday outlining the messages of congratulations.
The Cuban Government described Tinubu’s election as a reaffirmation of the will to strengthen the historic relations of friendship between the two countries, while Nicaragua expressed its best wishes for Nigeria’s peace and prosperity.
The D8 praised Nigeria’s active membership and expressed confidence that the country, under Tinubu’s leadership, would emerge as an economic powerhouse in Africa and on the global stage. The statement also highlighted Nigeria’s upcoming hosting of the first D8 Private Sector-driven Energy Forum in Lagos in mid-2023.
