As a response to Chad’s recent expulsion of the German Ambassador to Chad, Berlin has issued an order for Chad’s ambassador to Germany to leave the country within 48 hours, according to a statement by the foreign ministry on Tuesday.
“In light of the unjustified expulsion of our Ambassador to Chad, we have summoned the Chadian Ambassador in Berlin, Mariam Ali Moussa, and have requested her departure from Germany within 48 hours. We deeply regret that this action was necessary,” the ministry announced in a tweet.
Chad had expelled Germany’s ambassador, Gordon Kricke, last week, citing “non-respect of diplomatic customs,” according to the Chadian Communications Ministry. However, two Chadian government sources revealed that the expulsion was in response to Ambassador Kricke’s critical remarks regarding delayed elections and a court ruling that allowed interim military leader Mahamat Idriss Deby to run for political office.
“The German ministry acknowledges Ambassador Kricke’s exemplary service in N’Djamena, where he has been a strong advocate for human rights and the swift transition to civilian governance in Chad,” the statement added.
