Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and solidarity among Arab nations during a meeting in Cairo on Wednesday. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, regional and international issues, and ways to enhance cooperation in various fields, according to a statement by Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.
President El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the close historical ties between the two countries, while Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed highlighted the UAE’s keenness to enhance brotherly relations with Egypt. The two countries have a strong political relationship and regularly consult on key regional and international matters. They also share robust cultural and economic ties, with hundreds of thousands of Egyptians living and working in the UAE and billions of dollars in remittances sent back home over the years.
Furthermore, the UAE is one of the largest Arab Gulf countries in terms of investments in Egypt, with over 1,250 Emirati companies operating in various sectors in Egypt. Last year, the two countries celebrated 50 years of bilateral relations under the slogan “Egypt and the UAE: One Heart,” highlighting the deep bond between the two nations.
President El-Sisi emphasized that Egypt-UAE ties go beyond brotherhood and friendship, encompassing a true understanding of regional and global conditions. In a recorded speech during the golden jubilee ceremony, he stated, “Egypt-UAE ties are not confined to brotherhood and real friendship only, but also to the true, deep as well as accurate understanding of conditions in the region and the world.”
In addition, Egypt and the UAE, along with Bahrain and Jordan, founded a massive industrial partnership mechanism last year aimed at promoting sustainable growth and exploring joint investment opportunities. Egypt is currently preparing to host the COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh in November 2022 and is cooperating with the UAE to ensure the success of COP28, which will be hosted by the UAE in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023.
The meeting between President El-Sisi and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed highlights the continued efforts of Egypt and the UAE to strengthen cooperation and solidarity among Arab nations to face growing challenges on all levels. The close relationship between the two countries, based on mutual respect and understanding, is expected to further enhance regional security, stability, and development.
