Maseru, Lesotho – April 17, 2024 – The Lesotho Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations launched a new Basotho Diaspora Communication Strategy and Online Platform at the UN House in Maseru. The initiative aims to strengthen ties with the country’s extensive diaspora community.
Foreign Minister Lejone Mpotjoana highlighted the importance of collaboration between Lesotho and its diaspora, noting that Basotho living abroad potentially outnumber the country’s domestic population. He emphasized the valuable skills and financial resources the diaspora can contribute to Lesotho’s development.
The online platform, https://BasothoDiaspora.org, will serve as a central hub for communication and engagement. The launch event also featured discussions on the African Diaspora Investment Fund, a critical program aimed at harnessing diaspora investment for continental growth.
“Unity is strength,” Minister Mpotjoana said, echoing a Sesotho proverb that translates to “There is no gathering that succeeds without the participation of young people.” The event included virtual participation from Basotho diaspora members worldwide.
