AI Professor Vows Societal Impact in Inaugural Address

Johannesburg, South Africa – Professor Abejide Ade-Ibijola, newly appointed full professor at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), delivered a thought-provoking inaugural address titled “Mind, Heart, Grenade: A Story of a Career of Innovation.”

Professor Ade-Ibijola’s address wove a compelling narrative that transcended technological advancements. He explored the intersection of AI algorithms with real-world applications, highlighting the profound impact of technology on society.

Beyond academic achievements, Professor Ade-Ibijola’s dedication to fostering innovation and talent development shone brightly. He established the Grit Lab Africa, a social initiative equipping young Africans with the skills and mindset to thrive in the digital age.

His commitment extends to collaborations with the South African government, where he works to train unemployed graduates and empower them with relevant technological skills.

Professor Ade-Ibijola acknowledged the significance of collaboration in his journey, expressing his deep appreciation for mentors, colleagues, and students. “None of my achievements would have been possible without the support and collaboration of countless individuals and institutions,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of community in driving meaningful change.

Looking ahead, Professor Ade-Ibijola reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to exploring the frontiers of AI. His vision for the future hinges on continuous exploration and the convergence of education and technology to create a brighter future for all.

“I am committed to continuing my journey of exploration and discovery, pushing the boundaries of AI, and empowering the next generation of innovators,” he declared. “Together, let us embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, knowing that through innovation, we can create a brighter future for all.”
