Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola, elected to rest key players such as Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne in preparation for an upcoming match against Manchester United, but the Southampton team put on a strong display regardless.
The match was decided in the first half with a goal by Sekou Mara and a brilliant second from Moussa Djenepo, catching City’s keeper Stefan Ortega off guard. Despite Guardiola bringing on De Bruyne and Haaland in the second half, Southampton defended their lead with determination and secured a spot in the semi-finals, where they will face Newcastle.
