Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has disputed the claim that Nigeria consumes 60 million liters of fuel daily.
During a pre-recorded interview on Channels Television’s Roadmap 2023, Sowore criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for the figure and pointed out that the Nigerian Customs Service refutes this claim.
Sowore believes that the so-called fuel subsidy in Nigeria is actually the rich maintaining their lifestyles at the expense of the poor and vulnerable masses, as the process is corrupt and fraudulent.
He also stated that there is no actual subsidy in Nigeria and the government should focus on fixing the refineries instead of importing fuel.
Sowore also mentioned the government’s plan to invest $2.8 billion in a private refinery in Lagos.
