The National Christian Elders Forum, a group of Christian leaders from various regions, has endorsed Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, for the upcoming February 25th elections.
In a statement titled “Resolutions towards 2023 elections: Think new,” the forum called on Nigerians to vote based on candidates’ capacity, ability, integrity, and good health, urging them to avoid politics of religion and tribalism.
The group also urged security agencies to take seriously reports of potential violence during the elections and called on the Federal Government to prevent violence. The forum emphasized that Nigeria needs new leaders, policies, and political parties to eradicate corruption, incompetency, lawlessness, and impunity.
The NCEF commended the government for taking steps to curb vote-buying and reiterated the call for national integration, reconciliation, and unity to promote economic and social development.
Members of the NECF include notable figures such as Hon. Justice Kalajine Anigbogu (retd.), Elder Nat Okoro, and Dame Priscilla Kuye.
