INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, has affirmed that Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election will hold as scheduled on February 25, despite past postponements.
He made this announcement at a media briefing held in Abuja, where he also reported that there have been no security incidents involving INEC personnel and materials deployed for the election.
While INEC has consistently postponed general elections since 2011, Yakubu’s statement rules out any further postponements. However, last-minute developments cannot be entirely ruled out before the election’s scheduled time.
The voter turnout is expected to increase significantly this year, with 93.3% of registered voters already having collected their Permanent Voter Cards. The APC’s Bola Tinubu, PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, and Labour Party’s Peter Obi are expected to contest for Buhari’s successor in a three-horse race.
