The National Chairman of the Labour Party has accused certain officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies of colluding to obstruct the uploading of presidential election results to the Commission’s central server.
The Chairman, Julius Abure, specifically cited incidents in Lagos State, including areas such as Agege, Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Surulere, and Ibeju Lekki, as well as parts of Delta State where similar manipulation was recorded.
Abure expressed concern that some INEC officials claimed the BVAS (Biometric Verification and Authentication System) suddenly developed faults and therefore could not be used to upload results from polling units.
Nigerians accused the Commission of not keeping its promise to upload election results from various polling units across the country as they were being sorted, counted, and collated.
Similarly, the civil society organisation, Yiaga Africa, expressed concern over the delay in uploading polling unit results for the presidential election on INEC’s Election Result Portal, stating that no results had been uploaded after voting and counting ended in several polling units as of 7 pm on election day.
It is worth noting that on November 22, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Yakubu Mahmoud, had declared that the Commission would proceed with its plan to upload the results of the 2023 general elections on its portal, thereby providing Nigerians with a real-time view of the results as they were being collated.
