Collation of results for the February 25 presidential election in Lagos State has commenced by the Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC). The state collation centre in the Yaba area of Lagos State was opened by the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Olusegun Agbaje on Sunday.
Results for 12 local government areas (LGs) were announced by 12:21 am on Monday. These LGs include Lagos Mainland, Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos Island, Badagry, Agege, Ikeja, Shomolu, Kosofe, Amuwo Odofin, and Eti Osa.
However, the collation officer for Eti Osa LGA was unable to specify the number of polling units where the process was disrupted. She was asked to provide specifics and return to present the figures again.
Nationwide, 87,209,007 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were collected for the election, with 6,214,970 PVCs collected in Lagos, making it the state with the highest number of collected PVCs. Kano and Kaduna followed closely with 5,594,193 and 4,164,473 PVCs collected, respectively.
It is worth noting that Lagos State is the base of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who served as governor of the state from 1999 to 2007. Other presidential candidates in the race include Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
