The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC) jointly called for a fresh presidential election, stating that the February 25th election was “irretrievably compromised.” The LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and ADC counterpart, Ralph Nwosu, made these demands at a press conference in Abuja.
They accused officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of manipulating the elections, alleging that results were not uploaded electronically on the commission’s Results Viewing Portal (IReV) as required by Section 60 of the Electoral Act 2022. The LP, PDP, and ADC declared a vote of no confidence in INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, and demanded that he steps aside for an unbiased person to conduct a fresh election.
Agents of the PDP and the LP walked out of the National Collation Centre in Abuja over dissatisfaction with the collation process of results from state collation officers for the presidential election (SCOPs). Melaye and others insisted that the INEC chairman must not accept the results of Ekiti, alleging incidents of over-voting and electoral irregularities.
INEC chairman, Yakubu, maintained that there was no over-voting in Ekiti and that the results presented by the SCOPs stood. Results for about 13 states have been released with the top parties sharing the wins. Many party leaders have bitterly complained that INEC officials at the polling units were unable to upload election results to the IReV.
