The Lagos branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied rumors of talks with the Labour Party (LP) regarding a potential alliance for the upcoming governorship and House of Assembly elections on Saturday.
The PDP’s publicity secretary, Hakeem Amode, released a statement on Monday refuting claims that their candidate, Abdulazeez ‘Jandor’ Adediran, was planning to withdraw from the race. Amode called out the LP’s candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, for suggesting that he was in talks with the “real owners” of the PDP structure in Lagos state, stating that no one could lay claim to the ownership structure of the PDP.
Amode emphasized that only the state executive of the party, as recognized by the national body, could be described as the custodian of the PDP. He also confirmed that Jandor was not planning to step down for any candidate and that there were no official conversations taking place across the two-party lines at the moment.
Amode urged supporters to respect and defend the people’s decision to ensure that Lagos breaks free from the present oligarchy government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming gubernatorial election on March 11.
