Pius Akubo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has refused an offer to join President-elect Bola Tinubu’s legal team, which is expected to defend his controversial win in the February 25 presidential election.
Mr Akubo stated that he was not aware of the appointment and had not received any official communication from Mr Tinubu’s camp.
In a statement, the senior lawyer mentioned that he had no intention of defending the former Lagos governor for personal reasons, even if such considerations were being made. He declined the appointment due to personal reasons.
The Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party have expressed their intention to challenge Mr Tinubu’s victory, and the country may face a significant legal dispute that could last several months.
