The governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been endorsed for re-election by the Accord Party in Lagos.
The party’s candidates have also agreed to step down for Sanwo-Olu and all the APC candidates in the March 18 elections
. The endorsement was announced by Oladele Oladeji, AP chairperson in Lagos, during a press conference held at Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, on Tuesday.
According to Gboyega Akosile, the chief press secretary to the governor, Oladeji stated that AP opted out of its alliance with the Labour Party (LP) due to the way its members were treated after the presidential poll.
Oladeji also said that AP’s decision to support Sanwo-Olu’s re-election was based on his performance and the party’s resolve not to sacrifice the administration’s various achievements on the altar of bitter politicking.
The party urged its members and all Lagos residents to come out en masse on election day and vote for the APC candidates.
AP’s gubernatorial candidate, Peter Obayuwana, also spoke at the press conference and said that he stepped down his ambition for the incumbent governor due to his efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic and other laudable infrastructural developments across the state.
Obayuwana clarified that the endorsement was made without any financial inducement and was from a clear conscience.
