The trial of Senator Ike and Mrs Beatrice Ekweremadu, as well as their daughter Sonia, over allegations of illegal organ harvesting for a kidney transplant, continued in the Old Bailey court in London on Tuesday.
During the seventh week of the trial, Mrs Ekweremadu, in tears, testified in her husband’s defence. She denied having knowledge of the alleged victim and his organ being harvested for her daughter’s transplant.
The prosecution also questioned her on lengthy text messages exchanged in the past two years.
The trial alleges that the Ekweremadus, along with Dr Obinna Obeta, conspired to transport a young street trader from Lagos to London for organ harvesting.
The senator’s brother, Diwe Ekweremadu, who is believed to have acted as a middleman, is yet to be traced by the British police.
