During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, criticized the 2023 Nigerian presidential election, describing it as the worst in the country’s history and a setback to the democratic process.
Obi expressed disappointment that despite the significant amount of money allocated for the election, it did not meet expectations. He attributed the failures to the Electoral Act of 2022, which he claims did not deliver on its promises despite the significant amount of money spent on technology.
Obi berated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its inability to transmit real-time results of the presidential election via its portal, which he believes has further downgraded the country’s reputation. Obi said that the conduct of the election had dampened the morale of young people who had high hopes for the process.
Despite challenging the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu’s declaration as the winner of the election, Obi is optimistic about obtaining justice through the courts, having already gone through several legal battles. He emphasized the need to build and bequeath a better future to the younger generation.
