During the second Russia-Africa parliamentary conference held in Moscow over the weekend, National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula expressed South Africa’s commitment to supporting Russia and seeking its economic assistance.
Russian President Vladimir Putin also addressed the gathering, promising to continue supporting African nations in nuclear energy, training, and education.
Mapisa-Nqakula made a plea to Russia to assist Africa in securing a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council to prevent conflicts on the continent. South Africa will continue to rely on Russia for support in achieving economic and political prosperity. Additionally, she proposed South Africa as a potential location for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine during her attendance at the inter-parliamentary union in Bahrain.
She also criticized the Western world’s imposition of sanctions on African nations due to conflicts, which she viewed as a violation of human rights.
