A businessman, Molokwu Nwachukwu, who frequently travels to China, Dubai, Pakistan, and Vietnam, was apprehended by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos.
The arrest was made when Molokwu was attempting to board his flight to Southeast Asia on Wednesday, March 22nd. He had concealed thirty-six parcels of cocaine in different parts of his check-in bags, hand luggage, and two pairs of slippers. NDLEA operatives recovered a total of thirty-six parcels of whitish powdery substance, weighing 1.00 kilogram, that tested positive for cocaine from his luggage.
According to NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, Molokwu claimed he travels frequently to China, Dubai, Pakistan, and Vietnam, from where he imports baby wears that he distributes from his base in Onitsha, Anambra state. NDLEA operatives also foiled other drug smuggling attempts, including the export of methamphetamine to Brazil, the export of a cocaine consignment, and the export of tramadol.
The NDLEA also intercepted several drug consignments and arrested suspects in different parts of Nigeria. These included 107 kilograms of Cannabis Indica hidden in a container imported from Toronto, Canada, and 69 bags of Cannabis Sativa weighing 700kg concealed under bags of fertilizer in Edo state. Additionally, a female drug dealer was nabbed in Ogun state with different quantities of methamphetamine, cannabis, and rophynol along with N119,600.00 monetary exhibit. NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the officers and men of various NDLEA Commands for their vigilance and excellent working relationship with other security agencies.
