A Lagos-based law firm named Lawflex has written a letter to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), urging them to prosecute Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 25 February election.
The firm accused Mr. Obi of failing to declare assets he held in tax havens while serving as a state governor. The letter, signed by Olukoya Ogungbeje, was received by the CCB on Thursday.
The law firm also referenced a 2021 investigation by PREMIUM TIMES that detailed Mr. Obi’s investments in offshore tax havens that he did not disclose in his mandatory CCB filings before and after leaving office.
The law firm claims that Mr. Obi’s actions contravene the Code of Conduct for Nigerian Public Officers as spelt out in the Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended).
In the letter, the law firm warns that if the CCB does not take constitutional action within 30 days, they will seek a judicial review by way of an Order of Mandamus in a court of competent jurisdiction to compel the CCB to perform its public duty.
