David Oyedepo, founder of Winners Chapel, denied ever campaigning for any political candidate, amidst the controversy surrounding an alleged audio conversation with Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
In the leaked clip, a voice similar to Obi’s is heard asking Oyedepo to speak to Christians in the south-west and Kwara to vote for him, referring to the election as a “religious war.”
Oyedepo did not confirm or deny the conversation but stated in a Sunday sermon that he has never campaigned for anyone and will not until he goes to heaven.
He added that he has advised political parties that have approached him for prayers and advice, and that some followed his advice, while others did not.
