A group consisting of civil societies and thought leaders has urged for the upcoming court cases related to the elections to be televised, and for the judgments to be delivered before the scheduled swearing-in date of the newly elected winners.
The group has created a non-partisan platform called comonvoiceng, which enables citizens to express their views on issues concerning their lives to the government and corporations.
Anthony Kila, the director of the CIAPS Centre, released a statement on behalf of the group stating that the recently concluded 2023 elections have divided Nigeria, with a significant part of the country considering the elections free and fair, while another significant part considers them flawed.
The group believes that televised court proceedings and timely adjudication of electoral cases can bring an end to the controversies and restore unity in the country.
The group has appealed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria to ensure that electoral cases in court are televised and adjudicated before the swearing-in date of May 29, 2023.
Femi Falana (SAN), a prominent human rights lawyer, and Yakubu Maikyau, the National President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), have supported the calls for televising the presidential election tribunal proceedings.
