Datti Baba-Ahmed declines Soyinka’s debate offer

Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has declined Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka’s offer for an open debate.

This came after attacks on Soyinka by ‘Obidients’ who were unhappy with his reaction to Datti’s comments on the February 25 presidential election. In a statement issued on Datti’s behalf, his media campaign team said that he cannot accept the challenge for cultural and political reasons.

They stated that it is not decent for Datti to sit opposite the 88-year-old global icon and point out his folly, considering their age and accomplishment gaps.

Additionally, they mentioned that there is no basis for the challenge as Soyinka is not on any of the opposite ballots.

However, if Soyinka can use his influence to get his preferred candidates to debate, Datti is willing to take them on.
