Firmino’s late goal draws Arsenal in Anfield thriller

At Anfield, in an incident-packed encounter with Liverpool, Roberto Firmino scored a dramatic late equalizer to cut Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League to six points.

Despite the Gunners being in cruise control with a two-goal lead within the first half-hour, their lack of discipline cost them dearly. Gabriel Martinelli put Arsenal ahead after eight minutes, and Gabriel Jesus headed home at the Kop End. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah scored just before the break to set up an exciting second half.

In a bizarre incident, referee’s assistant Constantine Hatzidakis appeared to elbow Liverpool defender Andy Robertson as the teams left the field at half-time. Salah missed his second successive penalty when Rob Holding fouled Diogo Jota, but Firmino headed home Alexander-Arnold’s cross with three minutes left.

That late equalizer
Alexander-Arnold nutmegs Zinchenko and dink a ball in for Firmino who scored & wins a point for Liverpool.

Arsenal finally drop 2 points.

From all City Fans, thank you Bobby#LIVARS

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale produced two incredible saves from Salah and Ibrahima Konate as Mikel Arteta’s pace-setters had to settle for a point, with Liverpool deserving their share of the spoils for a stirring fightback.

Liverpool’s insipid performance was turned around when Xhaka unwisely tangled with Alexander-Arnold, injecting Jurgen Klopp’s side with energy and inspiration. Salah’s goal was the perfect invitation to mount a second-half siege in front of the Kop, and it was one Liverpool accepted as they finally showed some of their true form.

Despite Liverpool’s improved attack in the second half, they still looked vulnerable at the back, and both Arsenal goals were cheap. The result does not benefit either side, reducing Liverpool’s chances of a top-four place and offering a boost to Arsenal’s title rivals Manchester City, who now trail by six points and still have a game in hand on the north Londoners.
