President Cyril Ramaphosa led the nation in expressing condolences, calling Ngema “a cultural stalwart” whose work “honoured the humanity of oppressed South Africans and exposed the inhumanity of an oppressive regime.”
Ngema’s artistic genius blossomed in diverse forms, from plays and musicals like the internationally acclaimed “Sarafina!” to choreography, directing, and composing. His creations served as powerful mirrors reflecting the resilience and spirit of the South African people during apartheid, inspiring generations to fight for a more just future.
