The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture joined residents of Badagry to celebrate the annual Hundeton Festival in the Ajara Kingdom. The festival is gaining momentum as a major tourist attraction, with the potential to become a cultural centerpiece for the state.
“The Hundeton Festival has become a yearly tradition,” said Mr. Idowu Johnson, CEO of the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture. “We commend the organizers for their consistency. If they keep celebrating, it will continue to grow bigger and better.”
The festival is rooted in promoting Badagry’s cultural heritage and attracting tourists. It features traditional rituals, vibrant dance performances, and communal feasting.
“A well-branded Hundeton Festival will drive tourists into Badagry,” said His Royal Majesty Agano Toniyon 1, the Aholu of Ajara Agamathen Kingdom. “It’s crucial to preserve our cultural inheritance for future generations.”
The festival offers a significant boost to the local economy. Tourists bring revenue to local businesses, while the event showcases the region’s unique cultural heritage, traditions, and artistic talent. This fosters cultural diversity and preservation within the kingdom.
King Toniyon expressed his appreciation to the state government, particularly the governor, for supporting the festival. He emphasized the role Hundeton plays in cultural preservation and tourism, while also providing a platform for residents to celebrate their traditions and share them with visitors.
