In a proactive move to maintain peace and security and kick against the planned protests across the nation, the Six Council Chairmen in Ikorodu Division (Bldr. Olusesan Daini of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Bldr. Adeola Banjo of Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Agoro of Imota LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Alogba of Ijede LCDA and Hon. Sulaimon Olanrewaju of Ikorodu West) alongside traditional leaders welcomed CP Fakayode Adegoke,
Lagos State Commissioner of Police to Ikorodu Division for a pivotal town hall meeting at Ikorodu Town Hall.
Critical issues such as maintaining peace and fighting against the planned protest slated for August 1st, which many fear could escalate into a national disaster was carefully addressed by the commissioner and traditional leaders.
The Commissioner of Police in his remarks emphasized the importance of preserving peace and stability within Ikorodu Division and beyond. He highlighted the potential dangers associated with the protest, warning that such actions could spiral into chaos and severely disrupt the nation
The town hall was a remarkable demonstration of unity and concern for community welfare, drawing a diverse assembly of attendees. Present were esteemed monarchs, the Commissioner of Police and the entire Nigerian Police Force, political leaders, chairmen from the division, market men and women, religious leaders, representatives from Community Development Associations, the National Youth Council of Nigeria, transport unions, and local security agencies. This broad coalition of stakeholders unequivocally voiced their opposition to the planned protest.
Monarchs in attendance, Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, Ranodu of Imota, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Olubeshe of Ibeshe Kingdom, and all other monarchs within the division echoed the cultural and historical importance of peace in the community and urged the youth not be a tool of destruction. They called on residents to trust in the leadership and work together to find constructive solutions to their grievances.
Political leaders like Prince Abiodun Ogunleye (former deputy governor of Lagos state), Chief Ayodele Elesho (former commissioner of information) Lanre Balogun (former commissioner of commerce and industry) among top dignitaries from the division also took the floor, outlining the steps being taken at various government levels to address public concerns. They reassured the people that their voices are being heard and that efforts are underway to improve the socio-economic conditions that have fueled discontent.
Representatives from market associations, religious groups, and youth organizations emphasized the need for dialogue and peaceful engagement. They warned that violent protests would only exacerbate existing problems and urged the community to channel their frustrations through legal and peaceful means.
The meeting concluded with a strong, unified message – the safety and well-being of the Lagos State, Ikorodu division particularly is paramount.
This concerted effort by the Ikorodu Division’s leaders underscores their commitment to maintaining peace and security. As the nation faces numerous challenges, the Ikorodu community’s proactive stance serves as a powerful example of unity and responsible citizenship.
