Lagos, Nigeria – A tragic road accident claimed the life of a police officer on Thursday afternoon along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The incident, which involved multiple vehicles, occurred near the Kara Bridge.
Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), reported that a Volvo truck with registration number FKJ 484 YA, carrying goods and heading towards Arepo, collided with a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BWR 371 XC and an unspecified Mercedes bus.
The impact of the collision forced the truck to veer off the road and onto a parked bus.
Unfortunately, a police officer from the Mopol 20 Division, who was riding a motorcycle, was caught in the chaos and died instantly.
LASEMA’s response team arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies of the deceased officer and the damaged vehicles. The body was handed over to the Ojodu Police Division, while the vehicles were towed away.
The accident resulted in severe traffic congestion on the expressway, causing significant delays for motorists. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency confirmed the incident and deployed officers to manage the traffic situation.
As investigations into the exact cause of the accident continue, authorities urge motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent similar tragedies
