Lagos, Nigeria – A tragic road accident claimed the life of a revenue collector on Sunday, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near New Garage. The victim, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, was struck by a containerized truck while performing his duties.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, revealing that the victim was crossing the road when he was hit by the truck, registration number FST 887 XD. The impact of the collision was so severe that the victim died instantly.

LASTMA officials swiftly responded to the scene, managing traffic and ensuring the safe removal of the truck. The deceased’s remains were subsequently handed over to the Adigboluje Police Division for further investigation and notification of the family.

Authorities are currently on the hunt for the truck driver, who fled the scene after the fatal accident. The incident has sparked renewed concerns about the safety of revenue collectors, particularly those working on busy highways.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. He also urged transport unions to prioritize the safety of their members, especially when collecting revenue in high-risk areas. Bakare-Oki highlighted the urgent need for improved safety measures on Nigerian roads to prevent such tragic occurrences.
