Lagos, Nigeria – Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos recently witnessed the commissioning of the Firecoop Aviators’ Lodge, where Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), was commended for her transformative impact on the aviation industry. The Airports Fire and Safety Multipurpose Cooperative Society (AFSMCS) celebrated Kuku’s visionary leadership, which played a pivotal role in the development of the state-of-the-art facility.
Kuku’s role in the lodge’s development earned high praise from Saheed Sadiq, President of the Airports Fire and Safety Multipurpose Cooperative Society (AFSMCS), who credited her efforts with boosting patronage and enhancing the facility’s amenities. Sadiq highlighted the introduction of a 24-hour power supply as a significant milestone in the lodge’s operations, greatly improving the experience for guests.
“FAAN’s involvement has been pivotal to this investment,” Sadiq remarked during his speech at the event. “The reliable power supply and strategic support we’ve received highlight Mrs. Kuku’s commitment to improving infrastructure and staff welfare.”
The lodge, strategically situated between the domestic and international terminals, offers convenience for travelers seeking seamless access to Lagos’ busiest airport. Sadiq noted the facility’s critical role in improving passenger flow and providing a top-tier accommodation option for travelers and airline personnel alike.
Despite the progress, Sadiq called on FAAN and other stakeholders to continue their support. The cooperative society requires an additional N250 million to complete the furnishing of the lodge’s new wing, which will expand its capacity. He also drew attention to the poor condition of the road leading to the facility, urging authorities to prioritize its repair for better accessibility.
Representing FAAN at the ceremony, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, echoed the commendations for Kuku’s leadership. Orah highlighted that the development of the Aviators’ Lodge aligns with Kuku’s vision to elevate passenger experiences across Nigeria’s airports.
“The lodge’s proximity to both the domestic and international terminals underscores its importance to the airport ecosystem,” Orah noted, adding that FAAN remains committed to collaborating with the lodge’s management to improve standards and meet the growing demands of the aviation sector.
