Lagos, Nigeria – Nigeria will host the prestigious 2024 Men’s Junior Fencing World Cup for the first time, marking a historic milestone as the first Sub-Saharan African nation to stage the global tournament. The event is scheduled to take place at Charterhouse Lagos, an esteemed international school, from December 14 to 15, 2024.
This groundbreaking achievement places Nigeria alongside North African countries such as Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia, which have previously hosted the competition. The tournament is set to spotlight the nation’s emerging prominence in the sport of fencing.
“This will cement our position as a leading fencing nation on the continent,” remarked Adeyinka Samuel, President of the Nigeria Fencing Federation, expressing immense enthusiasm for the upcoming event. He described the tournament as a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s sporting landscape and a tremendous honor to host a world-class competition that will elevate fencing across the country.
The competition will bring together young talent from elite fencing nations, including the United States, Hong Kong, Egypt, Greece, Ghana, Senegal, Angola, Togo, and Benin Republic. Nigeria, as the host, will proudly showcase its own rising stars, such as Shemilore Fashola and Wisdom Okanlawon, who are eager to test their skills against global competitors and gain invaluable international experience.
Charterhouse Lagos, the venue for the event, has pledged its unwavering support for the development of fencing in Nigeria.
