Ikorodu, Lagos – A pivotal ruling from the Court of Appeal in Lagos has resolved a decade-long chieftaincy dispute, cementing Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi’s position as the rightful Ayangburen of Ikorodu. Delivered on Thursday, the verdict marks the culmination of a legal tussle that has polarized the Ikorodu community for nearly nine years.
Mr. Ademola Adeyeri, Special Assistant to Oba Shotobi, confirmed the court’s decision, expressing relief over the resolution of the matter. The case had been initiated by the Lambo branch of the Lasunwon Ruling House, which contested the monarch’s installation, seeking to overturn the initial ruling that favored Oba Shotobi.
Presiding over the case, Hon. Justice Obande Ogbuinya reaffirmed the legitimacy of the king’s appointment and installation, dismissing the appeal and reinforcing Oba Shotobi’s authority. This ruling concludes a long and contentious struggle over Ikorodu’s most prominent traditional title, providing a clear path for unity and development in the area.
The judgment is expected to heal divisions within the community, which has been fractured by the prolonged legal battle.
