Ikorodu – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has committed to completing the construction of a permanent orientation camp for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Agbowa, Ikorodu, by the close of 2024. This announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2024 Batch C Stream 1 corps members, held at the temporary NYSC camp in Iyana-Ipaja.
Represented by Mobolaji Ogunlende, the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed the 4,335 newly inducted corps members, including 1,484 males and 2,851 females. During the ceremony, the governor urged the corps members to actively engage in the various orientation programs designed to prepare them for their service year.
Sanwo-Olu stated that the camp would provide an array of mentorship and entrepreneurial programs as part of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development initiative. He urge the corps members to fully participate in these training programs, as they are geared toward equipping you with the skills necessary for self-sufficiency and financial independence, both during your service year and beyond.
Ogunlende, who also chairs the state’s NYSC Governing Board, took the opportunity to encourage the new corps members to adhere strictly to camp rules and regulations. He stressed the critical role the orientation program plays in preparing the corps members physically and mentally for their assignments. “Remain within the camp, follow the camp rules, listen to the officials, and obey all directives. The orientation course will prepare you for the primary assignments that await you in the coming months,” Ogunlende advised.
Christiana Salmwang, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, expressed gratitude for the state government’s ongoing support and urged the corps members to make the most of their time at the camp. She encouraged them to embrace core values such as unity, integrity, and loyalty throughout their service year.
The ceremony concluded with the administration of the oath of allegiance to the corps members by Justice Oyindamola Ogala, representing the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba. As the corps members embark on their service year, they have been encouraged to take full advantage of the training opportunities, which promise to shape their futures and contribute to the development of Lagos State and Nigeria.
