Badagry, Lagos – Youths from the Badagry Federal Constituency have been given a valuable opportunity to enter the renewable energy sector, thanks to an initiative launched by Rep. Sesi Whingan. Over the weekend, 50 young individuals from three local councils in Badagry participated in a two-day training on biogas technology, receiving hands-on instruction and financial support to kickstart their ventures in sustainable energy.
The training program, which concluded on Saturday, was conducted in partnership with the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA). It aimed to equip the participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in biogas production, its application, and the various benefits it offers. Experts from NBRDA guided the trainees through the process of establishing small-scale biogas systems, designed for both domestic and commercial use.
Rep. Whingan, who was represented by Alhaji Hassan Hammed at the event, expressed his firm belief in the potential of renewable energy to drive development and create job opportunities in the community. “This program reflects my ongoing effort to create opportunities for the youth while promoting sustainable practices that can benefit not only individuals but the entire Badagry constituency,” said Whingan.
A key element of the initiative was the provision of financial support. Each of the 50 trainees received a N100,000 start-up grant to help them turn their new knowledge into viable ventures. The financial assistance is expected to play a crucial role in enabling the young participants to implement their biogas systems, contributing to the local push for clean and sustainable energy solutions.
Among the beneficiaries, Abdulhadi Adebayo and Dansu Pentho shared their enthusiasm about the training and the opportunities it has opened for them. Both expressed their intent to apply the skills learned during the program to establish biogas ventures in their local communities.
