Developers operating along the Lagos shoreline have been given a strict one-month deadline to regularize their properties or risk facing revocation and demolition. This directive came from Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, during his inspection tour of the Lagos Lagoon Estates and adjacent shoreline areas on Friday.
Minister Dangiwa, who is on an official visit to Lagos State, led a high-profile delegation including Permanent Secretary Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi and senior officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. The team is tasked with evaluating federal government-owned land and assets in the state.
During the inspection, Minister Dangiwa expressed deep concern over the disorganized and unauthorized developments along the Lagos shoreline. He noted that a new collaborative framework has been established with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, aimed at fostering orderly and lawful development of the coastline.
“The Federal Government is thoroughly documenting its assets nationwide to safeguard them from encroachment,” stated Dangiwa. “We will not tolerate the chaotic development currently plaguing the Lagos shoreline. Our partnership with the Lagos State Government is crucial in addressing these irregularities and restoring order.”
