The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has initiated legal action against a passenger, Ibok Ibok, following an assault on its officials at Lagos Airport. The altercation began when Mr. Ibok discovered his luggage had not arrived, prompting an outburst that disrupted airport operations.
Despite efforts by NCAA staff to calm the situation, Mr. Ibok’s behavior escalated into physical aggression, eyewitnesses reported.
In response, Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, condemned the act. “Our staff mediate disputes and enforce aviation compliance; they are not to be subjected to abuse or aggression,” he stated.
Legal proceedings against Mr. Ibok are underway, while Royal Air Maroc, the airline involved, is also under investigation for unrelated compliance concerns.
The NCAA, supported by the Honourable Minister of Aviation and the Director-General, stressed the need for passengers to adhere to regulations and conduct themselves appropriately in airports.
