Grassroots development in Lagos received a significant boost as Ikorodu Local Government Chairman, Mr. Wasiu Adesina, commended President Bola Tinubu for ensuring local government autonomy. Speaking on Tuesday during the 2025 Annual Inter-Denominational Prayer and Thanksgiving Service at the council secretariat, Adesina praised the timely release of funds, which he said has improved council operations.

Adesina also acknowledged the contributions of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his commitment to ensuring the autonomy thrives in Lagos. He called on other state governors to adopt similar policies, stressing that financial independence for local councils is vital for delivering essential services.
“Our governor has been exemplary in supporting autonomy. Here in Lagos, our funds are released promptly, enabling us to accomplish more for our communities,” Adesina added.
Further demonstrating his commitment to staff welfare, Adesina announced plans to acquire a staff bus for the Ketu-Ikorodu route, alleviating transportation challenges for employees. He also pledged to enhance staff welfare packages to improve productivity and morale.
The event saw praises from council stakeholders, including the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ikorodu chapter, Mr. Kazeem Adebambo, who thanked Adesina for the support extended to workers during the Yuletide. Acting Council Manager, Mrs. Beatrice Olunuga, highlighted how the chairman’s focus on staff welfare had inspired excellence among employees.
