Adiyan Water Works is set for a major expansion as the second phase nears completion, according to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. During an inspection of the project site in Akute, Ogun State, the governor revealed that construction progress has reached 80 percent, with 70-75 percent of essential equipment already delivered. This development marks a significant boost to the state’s water supply efforts.
Lagos residents can look forward to improved access to potable water as the Adiyan II Water Works nears completion. The project, a key infrastructure initiative, is set to supply 70 million gallons of water daily. During an inspection of the site, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism about its progress, noting that construction is now 80 percent complete. He also highlighted ongoing installations of critical electromagnetic and electromechanical components. The facility will draw raw water from the Ogun River, with pipelines extending to Akute for processing.
The governor assured Lagosians that the project is on track for completion within the next 10 to 12 months. This development promises a substantial improvement in water availability across Lagos, addressing a critical need for the state’s growing population. Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the contractors for their dedication and acknowledged the cooperation of the host communities. He noted that both the Lagos and Ogun State governments have ensured that compensation has been provided to residents affected by the project. “The locals are as happy as we are because there’s full restitution,” he affirmed.
While celebrating the progress, Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged that further work remains, particularly in enhancing water transmission infrastructure and building additional capacity. “The job is not finished yet,” he said, “It’s another promise kept, although delayed. It will be a project Lagosians will be proud of, as it will improve the economy and living conditions in Lagos.” He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing access to clean water, stating, “Water is one critical component that the government must provide, and we are happy that Adiyan II will live up to that responsibility.”
Looking ahead, Governor Sanwo-Olu unveiled plans for pipeline extensions across the Lagos Lagoon. This initiative aims to improve water distribution to key areas, including Ikoyi, Lekki, and Lagos Island, ensuring that the benefits of the Adiyan II Water Works reach a wider population.
