President Bola Tinubu is set to lead the launch of the “Renewed Hope City” housing project in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, an initiative designed to transform Nigeria’s efforts in addressing its housing challenges. Slated to begin in the coming weeks, the event will mark the start of constructing 2,000 housing units, a significant move toward reducing the country’s persistent housing deficit.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, shared this update during an official visit to Lagos on Wednesday. Dangiwa revealed that Lagos has been strategically selected as the flagship location to represent the South-West region. Similar projects are planned nationwide, with Kano set to host the North-West region’s inaugural event, followed by launches in the country’s four other regions.

The Minister confirmed that preparations for the Ibeju-Lekki site are well underway. The land has been secured, and construction activities have already commenced for the first 2,000 units in what will become a model housing development under the “Renewed Hope City” initiative.

As part of efforts to ensure the project’s success, Minister Dangiwa engaged in extensive discussions with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Both leaders acknowledged the necessity of federal-state collaboration and agreed to establish a Tripartite Committee. This body will act as a central platform to address any operational challenges, streamline processes, and facilitate effective execution of the project.
