A tragic wave of insecurity has hit Igbe Alagemo in Ikorodu Division, as a Saturday night kidnapping left a local vigilante dead and a woman abducted. The attack occurred in the Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), further deepening fears in a community already reeling from previous incidents.

The assailants, armed and determined, stormed the residence of their intended target. Unable to find their primary mark, they abducted the victim’s mother-in-law instead. The house, located near a swamp that has been a known hideout for kidnappers for two years, became the latest scene of terror in a region plagued by similar crimes.

Kayode Goriola, a local vigilante assigned to guard the home, was killed during the incident. Authorities discovered his lifeless body in a pool of blood, marking another devastating loss for a community desperate for protection.

This incident follows a recent case in mid-December when a former female footballer and her friend were kidnapped in the same area. They were released after a ransom of N13 million was paid. These recurring kidnappings have created an atmosphere of fear, particularly for affluent residents whose large homes near the swamp make them potential targets.

Security forces, including the Joint Security Taskforce (JTF) in Igbogbo/Bayeku, the Ijede Police Command, and Area N Command, have been notified of the latest attack. However, as of Sunday night, no ransom demands had been made by the kidnappers.
