On Friday, January 3rd, a violent clash between two rival gangs in Mushin, Lagos, resulted in the deaths of three individuals. The deadly confrontation involved members of the Kesari Boys and the Idi Araba Boys gangs.
Abiodun Vincent, the Area Commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), confirmed the fatalities in a statement on Sunday. According to eyewitness reports, the conflict began when members of the Kesari Boys were ambushed by the Idi Araba Boys gang while returning from a carnival. The confrontation quickly escalated, resulting in a deadly altercation.
An anonymous resident described the aftermath, noting extensive damage to vehicles in the area. When we woke up on Thursday morning, we saw several vehicles with broken windshields, indicating a violent clash between the two gangs, he said. Around 20 cars were damaged, a clear sign of the severity of the confrontation.
This latest confrontation is believed to be part of an ongoing rivalry. The same resident recalled a previous incident from three months ago, in which a member of one gang was killed, and noted that this clash seemed to be a revenge attack.
The VGN confirmed the arrest of two individuals during the violence. The suspects were caught attempting to extract a bullet from one of their wounded gang members. Abiodun Vincent assured that the VGN is cooperating with the police to pursue legal action.As of now, the Lagos State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident. The ongoing gang violence in the area continues to raise concerns among residents, who are calling for increased security measures.
