Lagosians can look forward to better commuting options as the state government commits to completing the Mile 2 and Marina transport interchange hubs within 13 months. These projects, part of the Lagos Strategic Transport Masterplan (STMP), aim to create an integrated transport system that will ease congestion and enhance connectivity.
Initiated in July 2024, the construction of these hubs is designed to improve connectivity and reduce the notorious traffic congestion in Lagos. The interchanges will serve as key transfer points, enabling commuters to switch seamlessly between road, rail, water, and non-motorized transport options.
Speaking during a project inspection, LAMATA Managing Director, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, stated that the timeline is achievable. She added that the project aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s broader vision of making public transportation more appealing and accessible to Lagosians.
Funding for the initiative comes from a credit provided by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), supplemented by counterpart contributions from the Lagos State Government. According to Mr. Xavier Muron, AFD’s Country Director for Nigeria, the hubs will tackle significant challenges related to first- and last-mile connectivity, vastly improving the commuting experience for Lagosians.
