The 1980 set of the Lagos State School of Midwifery, popularly known as Director Entry Five, marked their 45th anniversary on Sunday, August 25 2024, with donations of essential medical consumables to the Igbogbo Primary Health Centre and Mushin Local Government Palm Avenue East Centre.
The group, made up of over 80 members, has for years committed itself to humanitarian causes, supporting health facilities, schools, and vulnerable groups across Lagos State.
Items donated at the health centers included disinfectants, hand wash, soaps, cotton wool, gloves, and other essential consumables aimed at improving hygiene and service delivery for patients.
The group was conceived through the initiative of Mrs. Funmi Taylor in 1980 and has over the years engaged in various forms of humanitarian and voluntary services. Some members have served as volunteers with organizations such as Abiye Maternal and Child Health Initiative, Ward C community health programs, and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Direct Entry Five Group have recorded several philanthropy events some of which are donations of items to handicapped homes in Surulere, provision of a high-capacity printer to their alma mater during their 40th anniversary celebration, distribution of bedsheets to hospitals in Mosan Okunola, and the sponsorship of underprivileged children through scholarships and school fee support.
“Today is a special day for us as we mark our 45th anniversary. We believe it is important to return to the community, support healthcare facilities, and remind society that midwives, though retired, still remain committed to service,” Mrs. Adekoya said.
With their legacy of humanitarian service, the Director Entry Five set of the Lagos State School of Midwifery continues to inspire a new generation of midwives and community health advocates.
